What led you to join NAEF?
"The Education Foundation was already a member when I became Executive Director. I believe we joined to broaden our scope of learning from other leaders as well as building connections with like minded foundations."
What do you find most rewarding about being part of NAEF’s community?
"Education Foundations are very unique, so it is nice to have connections to a community that understands your challenges. Everyone is always so eager to offer support and help each other."
Describe a recent accomplishment or experience from your work that
stands out to you.
"I am currently working on my CEFL, which by far, has been the best professional development decision I have made. The CEFL course has offered practical application, knowledge, and guidance specific to Education Foundations. This course has been meaningful and will positively impact, not only myself, but the RCISD Education Foundation for many years to come."
Could you share a challenge you’ve faced in your work and the way you navigated through it?
"I would say the biggest challenge in relation to work is always awareness. As a Non-Profit whose sole purpose is to serve public education, this sometimes comes with confusion. Telling our story and sharing our mission with a community that may not fully understand how school budgets work, or why we need resources, at times can feel overwhelming. Although it is never ending, staying engaged in the community with district events, community events, business networking as well as speaking at other local organization meetings, are the best ways to get them engaged."
What motivates you, in life and at work?
"I would say in both life and work my motivation is rooted in a deep passion for building meaningful relationships. I truly love people! I have a desire to help others thrive and to see others succeed. I have a huge heart for education, so doing work that supports educators and inspires students to love learning, is great motivation. All of these qualities truly drive my work as an Education Foundation Executive Director."
If someone was considering a career in the education foundation
industry, what piece of advice would you give them?
"My one key piece of advice would be to have a genuine passion for the mission. Without a true connection to the cause, it’s easy to become disheartened by the challenges that arise. When you care deeply about the impact you’re making, you’ll find fulfillment and resilience in your work, which is essential for long term success and satisfaction."
